Kill Me (Ce Soir)

I’ve been writing up a post about The Driver’s Seat which has put me in the mood for this ditty by Golden Earring.

Dark, disturbing, distressing, and completely brilliant song. Just one more example of what international pop culture can create, “too much of a risk for a golden disc” as far as our provincial US population is concerned. Thanks for sharing this haunting bit of Nederpop. And, yes, it’s the perfect tie-in with The Driver’s Seat. There are, no doubt, those who would find their own death the greatest of gratifications–but are such narcissists that they couldn’t do it without someone else doing the gratifying. Isn’t that the central metaphor for this society? The news is readThe poison spreadOne yawn, two yawnsAnd back to bed

Interesting use of mannequins here. A drawing of this figure was used on the cover of Golden Earring’s album Switch, which featured this song. The juxtaposition of the image of Liz among the mannequins in The Driver’s Seat with those in this video is almost uncanny.

Yes, I was noticing that when I first saw this video, except Liz’s mannequins are female, and the one in this video is as androgynous as the band.
